5 Stars Samsung HL61A750
We absolutely love our DLP. We were considering a LCD but for the price we paid we would have had to settle for a much smaller screen. The picture on the DLP is incredible and having a 61″ screen makes television watching so much better. The quality we received for the price we paid is well worth. The only down side to this purchase was that the delivery person showed up after midnight to make the delivery and got us out of bed!!!
1 Star Excellent picture, but DISAPPOINTED
I orderd this TV on August 10, 2008, after a lot of research and much delibration (becasue this is the first time I am buying a TV online) from Amazon LLC. The unit arrived, after the shipping company called to setup a time for delivery.
So far, so good.
The people who delivered the TV on August 16, 2008, setup the TV and it powered UP fine and it connected to my DVD player fine. As mentioned by several reviewers, I checked the screen for any “dark dots (malfunctioning pixels)” and also for “screen distortion” and fortunately neither was an issue. I signed the delivery receipt and thanked the guys for delivering the TV.
So far, so good.
Exactly, 30 min after they left, TWO OVERLAPPING WHITE CIRCLES appeared on the screen (slightly below and to the right of the center of the screen). I can still see the picture thru’ these whitish areas. This whitish spots are especially visibile on dark scenes. I turned the lights off, lowered the blinds, changed DVD’s, started praying that the spots would disappear, but nothing, they spots did not go away. REALLY FRUSTRATED, since I was getting ready to watch the closing ceremony of the olympics.
DISSAPOINTED!!!
I am calling AMAZON tomorrow to see what my options are. Will update this post after that.
5 Stars WOW What a picture
I had read stuff that DLP might not be as good as LCD or plasma. As far as I can tell DLP by Samaung is as good or better. I am really amazed by the picture quality of the Olympics from the other side of the world. So far the set is fault free (about three weeks). My one complaint is I still need a cable box which is not fault free. The set seems to be able to tune about a thousand channels but bright house has come up with others that it cant tune so I still have to screrw around with two remotes. The cable signal is also weak and I just bought an rf amplifier. The value for the buck is excellent. Take a look in the stores and compare the price to Amazon. I figure I saved $500.
5 Stars So Happy with this tv
I never write reviews - But, I am so so happy with the tv, and thought I would take a moment to express why. My in-laws have a Sony 50″, a couple of other friends have 50″ and 60″ rear projections as well. They are nice, but the time it takes for their televisions to turn on is night and day with our Samsung. The LED pops up right away, the color is insane, such a wonderful screen. Plus the viewing angle! We can easily sit on sides of the TV and see everything very well, there is a slight change in color. But, its still very good. We purchased this tv last fall, 07. No regrets. My wife and I are always in awe when we watch tv.
One feature I like is: The tv will sense the equipment plugged into it. I have three HDMI devices plugged into the TV. Blue-Ray, Apple TV, and Comcast digital cable. Occasionally I’ll plug my laptop into it using the RGB port. The TV will make only the items that are on or plugged in available. So, when I switch devices using the “source” button on the remote, it will only go to the item that is on. Nice.
The only thing is, it doesn’t have Picture In Picture. That would be nice, not needed, but with the Olympics on it would be nice. However, I didn’t miss that feature until I was trying to catch Michel Phelps last swim.
————————-Update
The review that I wrote is about the version tv just before this one. It is almost identical based on the specs. The only difference is… This updated version has Picture in Picture. My version appears to be discontinued, this is the replacement.
5 Stars Jawdropping - Simply Amazing - It must be the mirrors
I consider myself fairly picky when it comes to video quality and I have to say that this TV has exceeded all of my expectations. I’ve read all the reviews and decided to take the leap, against the advice of all my friends that said: get LCD, get Plasma.
One weird thing I noticed was while it looks OK at the store, it is simply spectacular when you get it in your home. Several other reviews mentioned the same thing, and it’s true.
Yes, there is the viewing angle issue for rear projection, but that isn’t a problem for me - and the picture is unbelievable - intense rich accurate color, tremendous blacks, excellent sharp detail… you’d have to spend $5000 or more to get this size and picture quality in a plasma or LCD, and I’ve looked at those and prefer the picture quality of this DLP. The LCD engine will last the life of the TV, you don’t need to worry about bulb replacements and this is probably the greenest TV you can buy energy consumption wise… about 180 watts when on and less than a watt when in standby. Samsung absolutely did their homework when engineering this TV. Unless you are intending to hang it on a wall, or have the need to have people sit outside normal viewing positions it is an absolute no brainer, you should definitely buy this TV. This TV has a better picture than others costing thousands more…and it is simply an astonishing value.
And a plug for amazon… while I buy from amazon all the time, I was a little sceptical with having a TV shipped, but I read the reviews and thought, what the heck and gave it a shot… wow, extremely painless - everything went like clockwork, very professional and you can’t beat the price. In fact, the price has gone down since I’ve ordered and it is within 30 days, so I wrote amazon and they are giving me the lower price. In fact, if the price goes down again within the 30 day window they will honor the new price. You can’t beat that… I have no complaints and encourage anyone looking at this TV to consider getting it from amazon - you’ll be happy you did.
